FAQ

Q: What is ‘Dyspraxia’ ?

A: ’Dyspraxia’ is an immaturity or inability to organise and learn motor skills. It can manifest in many ways and there are a variety of approaches to remediate the problems.

The significance can only be estimated in the level of anxiety they produce in the child. the family and at school.

Q: What can ‘Therapy in Praxis Limited’ do to help my child ?

A: Provide a program to develop the child’s performance following comprehensive assessment and clinical observations

Assessment for specific perceptual deficits that may be contributing and therefore undermining performance abilities

Advice and remediation, as indicated, and where appropriate

This will provide a focus for the child to develop and improve self-confidence, self-awareness and self-esteem

ADHD & Diet

Q: Can food additives cause ADHD ?

A: Although there is some evidence that diet may be a factor in ADHD for some individuals, recent UK research has identified that only a small proportion of children respond to dietary help and modifications.

Q: Can poor parenting or ‘confused home backgrounds’ cause ADHD ?

A: There is little evidence that socio-economic and environmental factors or poor parental management cause ADHD. Children with ADHD often behave badly and cause stress for parents and siblings. Normal methods of discipline and behavioural management do not work well and parents can feel very inadequate or simply ‘give in’ for a quiet life !

The ADHD child, however, will benefit from a consistent approach and routine, they require more structure than other children and do not cope well with change or chaos.

Q: Does every child behave like this sometimes ?

A: Most people are inattentive, impatient or overactive at times !

However, for the child with ADHD this behaviour is the rule rather than the exception.

The child with ADHD usually stands out from his or her peers due to ‘overt’ or ‘up front’ behaviours.
